Who We Are

The Humanitarian “Nineveh Relief” Organization (HNRO) was founded by internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Nineveh in the immediate aftermath of the events of summer 2014, with the aim of mitigating the effects of displacement and advocating for the future of our community. We are an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to providing urgently needed humanitarian services to all people affected by mass violence in Iraq, regardless of their religious or ethnic identity. Our interventions include health, legal, education, and livelihood programs.

HNRO was officially registered in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) and is incorporated in Baghdad under Registration Certificate No. 2006, dated 6 December 2017.

HNRO is a trusted partner and a strong advocate for forcibly displaced persons and other vulnerable populations in Iraq, with extensive experience in managing donor-funded programs. Through grants from international organizations, we operated two medical clinics in Erbil, each serving more than 600 IDPs per week. In 2019, we established a medical center in the Nineveh Plain to support returning populations, providing quality healthcare services to more than 50 beneficiaries per day in Bartella Sub-District and Hamdaniya District.

In addition to healthcare services, HNRO provides vocational training, small business support, and courses in music, English, and French. It has also delivered food assistance to vulnerable families and individuals in need.

On 1 January 2019, HNRO established the Legal Clinic Project to address violations affecting minority communities through legal awareness, professional documentation, and advocacy. The Legal Clinic conducts lectures and workshops on religious freedom, pluralism, acceptance of others, and peaceful coexistence in partnership with several international and local organizations. Furthermore, the Organization promotes legal awareness within Iraqi society and contributes to the drafting and advocacy of legislation related to minority rights.
